Has the tide turned towards responsible metrics in research? Online

Research assessment is now a fundamental part of higher education and often relies on metrics. Research metrics are widely used by institutions, funding agencies, publishers, and ranking bodies (Times Higher and QS), as well as in national exercises such as the REF and KEF. Consequently, the question of how we use metrics responsibly has come to be of great importance to organisations involved with research assessment. Join us to discuss how, as a community, we effectively transition to a fairer, more transparent, and ultimately more responsible system of research assessment.

Speaker- James Wilsdon

James is Professor of Research Policy at the University of Sheffield and Director of the Research-on-Research Institute (RoRI). Professor Wilsdon also chaired the UK review of research metrics that led to The Metric Tide, and chair of the EC expert group on Next Generation Metrics.
