**Understand how to navigate copyright law, enabling you to use others’ work legally, protect your own rights, and manage publishing agreements.**

This session is primarily aimed at 1st year PGRs but is open to all researchers.

Session details

This session examines the role of copyright in academic research. The session addresses the conditions under which material created by others may be re-used, the exceptions granted by copyright law for research and academic work, and the function of licences. It covers how to request permission to re-use work not covered by a licence or copyright exception. Additionally, the session outlines the rights of creators, including key considerations to be aware of in publishers’ contracts. Strategies are provided for retaining or utilising your copyright.
