This session is primarily aimed at 1st year PGRs but is relevant to all researchers starting to author academic papers.

This introductory session introduces key stages and information about academic publishing. You’ll learn the basics of academic publishing, including how to choose a suitable journal, navigating peer review and understanding your rights as an author. The session also highlights the latest trends shaping the publishing landscape. Whether you’re preparing your first paper or just want to better understand the process, this session offers practical advice and insight.

By the end of the session, you will be able to:

  • Understand the stages of academic publishing.
  • Choose an appropriate journal for your work.
  • Recognise common publishing challenges and how to handle them.

Session logistics

The session includes 1 hour of teaching followed by 30 minutes for questions. It is open to all researchers and will be delivered online via Teams or on-campus (please check when booking). For any questions, please contact the Library.
